Car Won't Start — Need Recovery?
Not every car that won't start needs towing away — many cases are solved on the spot with a jump start. Here's how to work out which situation you're in.
When a jump start is enough
If the issue seems electrical — dim or no lights, clicking when you turn the key, complete silence — a flat or weak battery is the likely cause, and a jump start on the spot usually gets you moving again within minutes.
When you need full recovery instead
If the engine cranks normally but won't fire, if there's a strange smell or visible smoke, if something clearly mechanical has happened (a loud bang, a warning light for oil pressure or overheating), or if a jump start has already been tried and failed, the vehicle likely needs recovery to a garage rather than a roadside fix.
Not sure? Call anyway
You don't need to self-diagnose correctly before calling. Describe what's happening and we'll advise whether we can get you going on the spot or whether the vehicle needs recovering — either way, we come to you.
